7-Day Photo Challenge: National Pet Week

For most pet owners, showing appreciation to your furry friends comes naturally. After all, they help to make us feel happier every day. Although life can get pretty busy, so time isn’t always on our side when it comes to giving our pets the attention they deserve. That’s where National Pet Week comes in – a whole seven days dedicated to our pets – and it’s just around the corner! That’s why we’ve been conjuring up a plan to help you celebrate this special occasion with your furry friends, and it’s another 7 Day Photo Challenge.

This time, we challenge you to pull together a mixture of witty portraits and candid shots of your pet – but be sure to get their good side…

Day 1: Doing a trick

The ultimate dog photo challenge! Start with a bang and show off your pet’s skills with a snap of them doing their best trick. Whether that’s of them up on their hind legs, shaking hands (or paws), rolling over or another fun pet trick. If the photos are turning out blurry, try taking them in burst or live mode to try and get the best shot. And remember, with the Nixplay smart frames you can display both videos and photos – so don’t worry if you can’t get the perfect still shot, choose video instead!

Pet can’t do any tricks? No problem! A cute snap of them looking their best is just as good.

Day 2: Fresh air

Whatever the weather, we want to see a picture of your pet enjoying the great outdoors. Whether you’re off on your daily walk, at their favorite outdoor spot or you’re trying your hand at a mini photoshoot in the back yard. Maybe your pup likes to prance around in the puddles or bask in the warmth of the sun – either way, capturing them in their element is sure to produce a happy photo that’s worth sharing with family and friends.

Day 3: Smiling for the camera

It’s no secret that an adorable photo of an animal smiling into the camera can pull on the heartstrings. So why not share a snap of your pet showing off their best smile? Simple yet effective, you could even use a black and white filter for a timeless and ‘pawfessional’ look.

This one might be a bit tricky, but we’re sure a little treat wouldn’t go unnoticed…

Day 4: Favorite toys

It’s day four and we want to see your pets with their favorite friends. From squeaky toys and cuddly animals, to tug of war ropes and bouncy balls, every pet wants to show off their favorite toy and this is the perfect opportunity to do it. So why not capture a quick shot of them playing with or even cuddling their favorite toy as they sleep?

Day 5: Dinner time

Serving up their favorite treat for dinner? Share a snap of them indulging on gourmet meal for day five. While a candid shot will work, you could also style it up to create a comical scene of your pet politely sitting at the dinner table. Better yet, take a different angle and show off your furry friend in a chef’s hat “preparing” dinner!

Day 6: Playing dress up

Dress them up in their Sunday best or a comical costume for a fun twist on today’s photo challenge. From fake glasses to jumpers and hats, there’s a range of pet clothes out there to try – although don’t force them into it. If they’re not feeling comfortable, simply set them up in a comical scene instead! Whether that’s reading a book, sitting at a computer or having a drink on a deck chair in the back yard.

Day 7: Pets and owners

For this last day, we ask you to take a photo with your pet. National Pet Week is all about promoting and encouraging responsible pet care, which is why we want to see you and your pet together. Whether that’s a selfie, an old portrait or a snap of you lounging in the local park. (We can also answer the age-old question of whether pets look like their owners…)

Pet Photography Tips

Wondering how to take good pet photos ahead of National Pet Week? Pets are unpredictable and often move about quite quickly, so capturing the right moment might be tricky. So, here are some of our top pet photography tips to get you started:

Take your pictures in burst mode: If they can’t sit still, shooting a burst of photos in one go will increase your chances of getting the perfect shot.
Look for the best light: As with any image, good light is everything – especially when it comes to pets with darker fur.
Offer a reward: Putting them through this many mini photoshoots most definitely deserves a reward! A few cuddles or treats should do it.

But the most important tip is to always remember to keep your pet safe, because putting them in danger to get the “perfect” photo definitely isn’t worth it.

7 Day Photo Challenge: Easter Edition | Nixplay

7 Day Photo Challenge: Easter Edition

Learning how to take the best photos entails more than knowing how to work the camera. It’s about setting up the right shot and working with the materials and subjects that you’ve got. This new 7 Day Photo Challenge series lets you get more creative with your photography and lets you share these moments with family and friends.

Start Your Easter Photo Challenge

To celebrate Easter this year, we want you to take part in our 7 Day Photo Challenge, filled with fun activities that you and the family can enjoy. Upload your photo challenges to your social media profiles with the hashtag #NixplayEasterPhotoChallenge and showcase your favorite snaps this Easter season!

Check out our Easter Instagram photo challenge ideas below.

1. All The Chocolate

Since a large portion of the Easter period is spent munching on chocolate, we’ve taken the opportunity to challenge you to take the best chocolate-filled photo. We’re looking for candid shots of your little ones diving into their first Easter egg, or mouthwatering snaps featuring your edible Easter bunnies. This Easter photo idea is simple but effective–and as a sweet bonus, you get to eat all the chocolate, too.

2. Fresh Flowers

Head down to a flower garden or meadow, or pick up some fresh blossoms to feature in your photos. Spring is all about colorful blooms and new life, so there’s no better way to celebrate than with a beautiful photo of fresh flowers, be it a charming bunch of hand-picked daisies, a scenic photo of a meadow, or a portrait of a loved one with a bouquet. Get creative and play around with petals, leaves, and blossoms to come up with a memorable image. If you’ve got time to play around, you could even put together a flower crown for each of your family members to wear. If all else fails, don’t forget that green grass and brightly colored flowers make for the perfect Easter photo backdrop!

3. Painted Eggs

Give your family another challenge and have a competition for the best decorated hard-boiled egg. Painting and decorating eggs is a classic Easter activity that both children and adults can get involved in, so why not treasure the moment with a photo challenge? Here are some egg painting ideas to get you started:

  • Dye your eggs using drops of food coloring in a bath of water
  • Draw faces on your eggs using a permanent marker
  • Paint Easter bunnies, flowers, and polka dots
  • Use finger painting techniques

If you want to up the ante, let your family and friends who live far away vote by sending photos of your finished eggs to their Nixplay Wi-Fi cloud frames! It’s a great way to get the whole gang involved, no matter where they are.

4. Easter Egg Hunt Candids

It’s finally spring, so make the most out of the weather and step outside for the ultimate Easter egg hunt. Take your camera out with you to snap some cute candids of your little ones while they’re on the lookout. Prepare lots of Easter eggs and wicker baskets to get the perfect snaps. You can set up in the back yard, or head over to the local park for your Easter egg hunt.

Top tip: When taking candid photos, use Burst Mode on your Smart Phone to get the best in-the-moment shot.

5. Bunny Ears

Pick up some bunny ears from your local fancy dress shop for our Day 5 photo challenge. Put them on the kids, on your furry friends, or on the whole family for the perfect Easter snap! You can even have a little fun with it and wear them out in public, sharing your snaps with friends and family using the Nixplay App as you go.

6. Easter Cupcakes

We challenge you to bake and decorate some delicious Easter cupcakes! Whether they’re topped with baby chicks, adorable bunnies, fluffy sheep, or an edible bird’s nest made of chocolate, we want to see it. Be as creative as you can be with it, but here are some top tips to get you started:

  • Use piping nozzles and green icing to top your cupcakes with “grass”.
  • Decorating with sheep? Use mini marshmallows to make them look nice and fluffy.
  • Dip strawberries in orange icing and stick them on the tops of your cupcakes to create the illusion of baby carrots sticking out of the ground.

After this, have a mini photoshoot with your Easter cupcakes to show them off to your friends and family (that is, if you can wait to eat them!).

7. Baby Animals

Celebrate new life at Easter and head to your local petting zoo to take some shots of the adorable lambs and baby chicks, plus the cute puppies, bunnies, and kittens. Try to get the best shots for your final submission to the Nixplay 7 Day Photo Challenge–and we’ll give you bonus points if you can capture a smile!

Sharing Your 7 Day Photo Challenges

Remember to keep everyone up to date with your 7 Day Photo Challenge! Share your photo challenges with other Nixplay users and connect your digital photo frame to your social media accounts. You can also send your Easter photos to your frames via email, the Nixplay app or our website–so sharing memories with the family has never been easier.

How To Use A Digital Photo Frame_The Ins and Outs

How To Use A Digital Photo Frame: The Ins and Outs

So you ordered a Nixplay digital photo frame and it has just arrived at your front porch. The excitement is palpable as you unwrap it and set it up on the mantle, but what’s next?

With our guide on how to use a digital photo frame, you‘ll learn the answer to questions such as ‘how many pictures can a digital photo frame hold?’ and ‘can digital photo frames play video?’, while discovering nifty features like how to rotate pictures on a Nixplay digital frame. Read on!

How do you transfer photos to a digital photo frame?

Struggling to transfer your photos from your mobile device? Each Nixplay Cloud Frame requires an online account from where you can manage your photos, albums, playlists and more. There are three ways that you can send your photos to your Nixplay digital photo frame:

1. Email
When you first set up your frame and create your Nixplay account, you’ll be asked to create an @mynixplay.com email address to allow photos to be emailed directly to your frame, which you can do by simply attaching the chosen image to a new email and sending it on to your @mynixplay.com email address. The photo will then automatically be stored in the online ‘Albums’ section under the name of the email sender.
Top tip: You can add the image into a specific playlist by typing ‘pl: playlist name’ in the subject line of your email.

2. Online
When sending photos to your frame from your hard drive or another source, they need to be uploaded to a Nixplay Cloud album. Log in to your Nixplay account from the website and go to ‘Photos’. Then after ‘Playlists’, you’ll find ‘Albums’, where you can select ‘Create an Album’. Once these photos have been uploaded, you can add each one to a playlist of your choice to then be played on your digital photo frame.
Top tip: Add captions to individual photos in albums, which will then be displayed on your frame – perfect for birthdays and celebrations!

3. Nixplay mobile app
Download the app from the Apple App Store or from Google Play Store and create an account/log in. Select ‘Send Photos’ from the home screen and you’ll be offered the choice to send photos from your camera roll or upload directly from the camera – great for those ‘day in the life’ updates! You’ll also be able to add captions and send photos directly to your playlists or friends.

How many pictures can a digital photo frame hold?

If you’ve got lots of memories you want to share on your digital photo frame, you may be wondering how many photos your frame can hold. Each one of our customers gets 10GB of free cloud storage, so the number of photos your frame can hold will depend on the size of the images themselves. For example, if your images are 5MB each, you can store 2,000 photos. If you’re looking to add more media to your frame, you can upgrade your storage with a Nixplay Plus subscription plan!

Can digital photo frames play video?

Yes! You can share your favorite short videos directly from the iOS and Android apps straight to your digital frame. It’s simple:
1. Click ‘Send Photos’ from the App.
2. Record a new clip or select a pre-recorded video from your camera roll. Keep in mind that Nixplay has a video play limit of 15 seconds.
3. Choose which playlist or friend you would like to send this video to, and see it play on your frame!

Whether it’s an old wedding clip, a video of the little one’s first steps, or a 15-second montage of the latest family party, you can share it all with your loved ones on your Nixplay digital photo frame.

How to add music to a digital photo frame

If you’re throwing a party, you may be looking to accompany your favorite photos with your favorite tunes. And with the Nixplay Seed Wave, listening to your music through your frame via Spotify Connect has never been easier! Simply open Spotify on your device (make sure your mobile, tablet or laptop is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your frame) and play your song of choice. Select ‘Devices Available’ at the bottom of the screen, and choose your Nixplay Seed Wave to start listening!

How to set up your frame with Amazon Alexa

Did you know that you can use Alexa to control your digital photo frame? Connect the two devices by installing the Amazon Alexa app and pairing it up with the device, while making sure that your Nixplay frame is connected to WiFi and a Nixplay account. Then install and enable the Nixplay Frame ‘skill’, which will prompt you to link this skill with your Nixplay account. Once it’s done, you’ll hear your frame say ‘Nixplay Frame has been successfully linked’.

Why not test it out by saying ‘Alexa, ask my frame to show me my family playlist’?

How to organize your digital photos

Got hundreds of photos to sort through but keep putting the task off? Stuck on how to organize them in a sensible, logical way? Don’t put it off any longer: Creating backups and sorting out your images will help keep them safe and tidy, and displaying them on a Nixplay frame will ensure that your memories and moments will always be at your fingertips. Make the task a little easier by choosing which memories to keep (discard silly selfies or duplicates) and arranging them chronologically. Discover more tips on how to smartly digitize and organize your photos on our blog.

How to rotate pictures on a Nixplay digital frame

Our digital frames can be placed in a landscape or portrait orientation at home, and the orientation you choose will depend on the photos you want to display. If the image being shown is upside down, you can rotate it by logging in online, finding the photo in the right album, hovering over the image to uncover the menu icon in the top right corner of the image. Click on this button and hit the rotate icon until it’s facing the right way.

And those are our top tips on how to use a digital photo frame. Make the most of your memories and display your favorite moments at home with a Wi-Fi Cloud Frame from Nixplay. easy tricks to teach your dog

Tricks To Teach Your Dog For The Best Puppy Photos

International Puppy Day—the perfect day to celebrate your furry companions and a great opportunity to share your favorite snaps of your pup—is fast approaching! And in true holiday spirit, we’ve pulled together some of our top tricks to teach your dog and take the best puppy photos. Share them with your friends online or display them at home to treasure for yourself—the choice is yours.

Easy Tricks To Teach Your Dog

Wondering what the best dog poses for pictures are? We’ve pulled together some of the best tricks to teach your dog, making for extra cute dog poses and the best puppy photos so that you can make your dog photography extra special for their big day. And remember, the trick is to always keep treats at hand to praise and reward their hard work!

“Sit”

First things first, you’ll need to make sure they know how to “sit”, if they don’t already. This pose makes for a smart and put-together snap of your pooch on their big day. Just follow these easy steps:

Stand in front of your dog and hold their favorite treat near their nose.
Keeping the treat near their nose, move it over their head in an arc movement. They will raise their head back to follow the treat and will end up sitting on the floor to accommodate this movement. Once they sit, praise them and give the treat!

Practice this regularly to get them used to the process.

Later on, add the verbal cue “sit” as they go to sit down. It’s important that you time it right, otherwise they may start to associate the cue with the wrong movement.

Eventually you will find that you can complete this trick without the need for a treat.

“Stay”

This trick is ideal for dog photography. Getting them to stay in one place will help you to get a still, clear portrait with minimal movement or blurs! Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Get them into the “down” position.
  2. With a treat at the ready, put up your hand in the “stop” sign with your palm facing them.
  3. Wait a few seconds before you give them the treat and say “stay” before you feed it to them.

Top tip: Only reward them with a treat while they are lying down, not if they have gotten up!

Regularly practice these few steps, gradually increasing the length of time that they are lying down. Start to increase the distance between you and them, taking one step back every few times you practice the trick. Eventually they should pick up the trick and will be able to perform it without a treat at all.

Don’t forget to practice in different pet-friendly places—at the park, in the garden, around the house—so that your pet can still perform the trick even when you’re away from home.

“Shake”

This trick makes for an adorable dog pose for pictures, showing off the relationship between you and your pup perfectly. But hold back from picking up their paw, as they’ll get there on their own. Here’s how:

  1. Sit them down in front of you and hold your hand out, with a treat enclosed in your palm.
  2. Let the pooch sniff or lick your hand to figure out what you’re after.
  3. Once they paw at your hand, open it up and give them the treat along with some praise.
  4. Repeat these steps until the dog is pawing at your hand consistently.
  5. You can now start increasing the difficulty and have your dog holding their paw on your hand for a longer period of time before you hand over the treat. Make sure that they know you want their paw on your hand. Taking the time to pause in that position will help them understand this. They will begin to realize that placing and holding their paw on your hand gets them the treat—not just scratching at it.
  6. Start introducing the verbal cue. So before their paw makes contact with your hand, say “shake”. They will soon start to make the connection between the behavior and the verbal cue.
  7. Now you can start to slowly introduce some gentle up and down movements—as if you’re shaking their hand.
  8. Repeat the previous steps until they’re completely confident in this trick.

“Beg”/“Up”

A cute dog pose makes for an even cuter photo. If your pup can master this trick, then you’ll get an unforgettable photo to show off this International Puppy Day.

  1. Get your dog to “sit” and hold a treat to their nose, giving them the command “beg” (or “up”).
  2. As they reach to take the treat, move it over their head so they have to reach up and get it.
  3. Then, move it higher until your pup is sitting up on their hind legs in the “begging” position. Once they’re up, give them praise and hand them a treat!
  4. Repeat these steps frequently so that they become familiar with the process and eventually learn to do it on command.

“Roll over”

This one may be a little harder to photograph in one image, but you can film a little clip to share with your friends and family. With a Nixplay Wi-Fi Frame, you can showcase your best dog photos and your favorite videos all in one place.

  1. Get your furry friend into the “down” position.
  2. Take a tasty treat and hold it at the side of their head by their nose.
  3. Move your hand towards their shoulder, which will encourage them to follow the treat and roll flat on their side.
  4. Repeat this a few times and give them praise every time they do it well so that they can get used to these steps.
  5. Once they’ve mastered the previous steps, with a treat, continue moving your hand from their shoulder to their back. They should then roll over to their back.
  6. Continue moving the treat so they roll over onto the other side.

Once your pup is confidently following these steps, start adding the “roll over” verbal cue. Eventually, you can reduce the hand motions and take away the treats, but they should be able to do this trick on cue!

Our Top Dog Photography Tips

It can be hard to make your pup sit still when they’re full of excitement, but we’ve put together some of our top dog photography ideas to make sure you get the best snap of your pup for the big day.

  • Practice makes perfect. Even though it may seem hard at first, never give up.
  • Lose the flash. The bright light can be off-putting and damaging for their eyes. So to make sure you get the best shot, use artificial lighting to eliminate the need for flash photography.
  • Get down to their level. It will help them to feel less intimidated, as well as giving you an adorable close-up shot!
  • Get the best expressions. Use playful tactics to make them wide-eyed and super smiley, or get their ears to perk up for a great shot by making goofy noises.
  • Choose a faster shutter speed. This will help you capture a clearer image before your pup inevitably moves their head or body during the shot. If you’re shooting your dog photography on your phone, choose the burst mode to get a sequence of shots to choose from.

Latest tech gadgets

What’s New In Technology?

New year, new tech. Whether it’s a new smartphone, a home security system, or a VR headset, our tastes in tech are unique and personal. This means that when it comes to what’s new in technology, we’re all looking for something different.

Luckily, the tech pool is overflowing, and there’s a huge variety of fresh digital products on the horizon.

Future Tech: What To Expect

2020 holds a lot of hope for technology, from the usual suspects such as the new iPhone (which is expected to be launched in September and is rumored to have FOUR rear cameras) to amazing and wonderful tech trends that we never thought we’d see in this lifetime, like driverless cars.

With gadgets and gizmos aplenty to choose from, we’ve done the hard part of sorting them out for you. Check out our shortlist of the most stand-out 2020 technology trends and new digital products.

EchoBeat Earphones
Are you looking for a more affordable alternative to the Apple AirPods? Well, consider your search over and say hello to EchoBeat!

EchoBeat is the latest tech gadget in the wireless earphone market, and it looks like they’ll be giving Apple a run for their money this year. With its high-quality sound, you’ll immediately notice the crystal-clear audio. And with built-in Bluetooth, you can go on the move without any hassle. At just $99, the clever minds behind this growing tech start-up are set to take off in a big way—so be sure to snap them up before they get too popular! This is also a great tech gift idea for the gadget-obsessed people in your life.

Extended Reality
If you thought your VR headset was advanced, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the latest update—extended reality (or XR).

XR covers virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies. It’s a big step up in the world of immersive experiences. We’ve already got simulated roller coasters with VR headsets, dog filters with Snapchat, and on-the-go computer monitors with AR glasses in the classroom. But XR is a perfect mixture of all three, which means we can expect huge strides in video games, medicine, movies, and retail. As businesses get to grips with all the exciting possibilities of this future tech, we’ll be waiting patiently to see what’s in the pipeline.

Personalized Medicine
2020 tech is predicted to transform the healthcare industry. With the ability to get data from devices such as smartwatches and fitness trackers, along with advancements in 3D printing, we’ll be able to predict and treat several health problems before we even experience any symptoms.

This also paves the way for more personalized healthcare, giving doctors more opportunities to prescribe medicine and treatments to specific patients. By the end of 2020, you might be able to get diagnosed and treated without waiting around in a doctor’s lounge!

5G Networks
It seems like only yesterday when we were being introduced to 4G. Now, the 5th generation of mobile internet connectivity has started to make an appearance, promising ultra-fast download and upload speeds, more stable and secure connections, and enhanced data coverage. It’s predicted that 2020 will see 5G soar in popularity, with more accessible data plans for smartphone users. If all goes well, we’ll never have to complain about slow internet speeds again!

Nixplay Smart Photo Frames
At the end of the day, the latest tech gadgets don’t need to be complicated—just smart. And adding smart home products to your house goes far beyond installing automated door locks and voice-controlled lighting. Inject an element of fun as you welcome the new decade by introducing a new digital photo frame that the entire family can enjoy.

The Nixplay Smart Frame works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home Assistant and it can be placed in any room of your home. Make your memories count by watching them in crisp, clear detail on Nixplay’s HD displays, which are equipped with integrated motion sensors, social media connectivity, and video playback.

This is the next-generation smart frame that will stay with your family for generations to come.

8K TV Technology
What exactly is an 8K TV? It’s a television that offers the clearest, most crisp picture you’re ever likely to see, like real life in unparalleled clarity.
With four times more pixels than the standard 4K images we’re currently used to, it’s a picture-perfect way to play video games, screen movies, and watch your favorite TV shows. In fact, as the average adult already spends 238 minutes per day watching TV, why not do it with the latest in tech?

Autonomous Driving
You might not see a lot of driverless cars roaming around just yet, but autonomous driving is starting to see a lot of traction, with tech firms such as Tesla and Sony investing in this arena. In 2019, a sister company of Google completed a trial run of autonomous taxi services, which transported more than 6,200 people to different destinations around California. So it seems as though this future tech might become a reality sooner than we think!

If you’re feeling a little anxious about letting your car cruise around the roads by itself, just look at the bright side—at least you wouldn’t have to endure awkward small talk with taxi drivers anymore!

New Digital Products

With so much future tech set to be revealed in 2020, we can expect big changes in the way we go about our day-to-day lives. Whether you’re excited about what’s new in technology because you’re a bit of a techie at heart, or you’re eagerly awaiting the latest smart home products to control your house from your phone, there’s no slowing technology down.

Want to keep up with the smart photo frame tech trends of 2020? Take a look at our new digital photo frame collections, from smart frames to Wi-Fi cloud frames.
